Monet painted outdoor scenes and landscapes, but Manet is more focused on figures when he does works. Sometimes many people mix up Claude Monet and Édouard Manet. Both of these people were 19th century French impressionists and came from the same era. They were both famous, but what were their real differences?

The works of Monet

Monet or also called Claude Oscar Monet was born on November 14, 1840 of French nationality, and one of the first French impressionists. Monet painted what his eyes saw, but did not do as many artists of his time. The differences between the works of Manet and Monet are that the latter was first an impressionist; his most notable works are: Sunrise, Rouen, Water Lilies, and the Cathedral series. One of the paintings that made him famous also is his work where you can find his future wife after his return from combat, in the cavalry in Algeria. Monet died at the age of 86 from lung cancer.

Manet's works

Edward Manet was born on January 23, 1832 and at the age of 51, he died in Paris on April 30, 1883. Manet was also of French nationality; he came from a wealthy home and spent his money on exhibitions. The differences between the works of Manet and Monet are that Manet is one of the main artists of the 19th century to advance the subjects of modern life. Indeed, he was a physiognomy in the transition from realism to impressionism. In 1863, one of his canvas representations called Olympia caused a scandal because he painted a naked courtesan. This artist also painted war scenes that angered the government.

The difference between these two painters

The differences between the works of Manet and Monet are very visible, not only on the artistic coasts, but also in their lives. Claude Monet was one of the creators of the impressionist movement. He illustrated emotions while being particular about abandoning visible brush strokes. On the other hand, Édouard Manet was a follower of the realist concept. Many see him as a representative of realism and impressionism. Monet's work is less naturalistic than Manet's, the work on light is very developed, as it shows a landscape, the colors are bright. On the other hand, the work of Manet is naturalistic while being shocking. Édouard Manet and Claude Monet are both great artists of painting in the 19th century. But these artists are very different, as one is an impressionist and the other a realist.
